About Me
Dr. Subhajit Pal is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California, Berkeley.
He earned his BS in Chemistry and MS in Organic Chemistry with distinction from Visva-Bharati University, India. He completed his doctoral degree in Prof. Andreas Kilbinger’s group at the University of Fribourg (UniFr), Switzerland, where he developed innovative strategies for biomimetic, sequence-controlled polymer synthesis and received the Best Doctoral Thesis Award in Natural Science at UniFr in 2020.
Following his Ph.D., he joined Prof. Christoph Weder’s group at the Adolphe Merkle Institute in 2021 to work on supramolecular approaches for the synthesis of commodity polymers. In 2022, he joined Prof. Phillip Messersmith’s lab in the Department of Bioengineering at the University of California, Berkeley, focusing on designing novel biomaterials for tissue repair and regeneration.
He has received the Swiss National Science Foundation’s PostDoc Mobility Grant (2022), UC Berkeley’s Venture Grant(2023), and PostX Entrepreneurship Grant (2023). In 2023, he co-founded AsparaGlue, a medical device startup based on his postdoctoral research on medical superglues. He was named a Rising Star in Soft and Biological Matter (2024) by the Materials Research Centers of the University of Chicago and UC San Diego. He received the Future Faculty Award (2025) and Leadership in Mentoring Award (2025) from the American Chemical Society.
